The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, employing more than 7,000 staff in over 100 countries. The British Council delivers international development contracts on behalf of donors such as the European Commission and UK Aid, providing management and technical leadership of complex and multi-stakeholder programmes in Sub- Saharan Africa and globally – including in conflict-affected states.

We are seeking expression of interest from qualified candidates for the Team Leader and Governance Specialist positions for forthcoming FCDO Programme Strategic Fund (PSSF) in Uganda. The PSSF will contribute to supporting accountability and human rights, cohesion and democratic participation in Uganda by focusing on:

  • administering grants to local organisations
  • flexibly responding to emerging priorities
  • generating evidence that can inform BHC work in Uganda.  

Please send us your CV if you are a dedicated professional with an in-depth understanding of governance and civil society issues in Uganda and proven track record with donor-funded programs at similar scale, scope and context, preferably in Uganda.

Requirements: A Master-Degree with minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in at least 6 of the following areas in Uganda and/or similar context:

  • supporting accountability and human rights
  • fostering cohesion and democratic participation
  • providing expertise and/or overseeing research on governance issues
  • capacity Building of local CSOs / NGOs
  • overseeing Financial and Grant Management processes
  • overseeing Programme management and Risk Management
  • leading teams to deliver similar projects successfully
  • overseeing the measurement and communication of robust results and impact
  • collaborating with a diverse range of partners to deliver results.
